Ukraine Could Export Record Corn Volumes Since the Start of the Full-Scale Invasion

The outlook for this year’s corn harvest will become clearer in the coming weeks, but analysts are already lowering production forecasts for Western Europe, particularly France and Spain. Against this backdrop, Ukraine’s corn export potential could reach a record level since the start of the full-scale invasion.

This was stated by Bohdan Kostetskyi, Operating Partner at Barva Invest, in a comment to AgroPortal.ua.

According to him, there are growing concerns about the corn crop in Europe. In France and Germany, corn plants had just entered the vegetative growth stage when the heatwave struck, causing significant stress. Corn crops in Hungary and Romania have also been severely affected.

«With carry-over stocks of around 4.3 million tonnes and a harvest of approximately 31 million tonnes, Ukraine could supply more than 25 million tonnes of grain to international markets. So far, there have been no significant corn losses in Ukraine. However, the key challenge is the country’s physical export capacity. The capacity of export logistics chains has been reduced by around 2 million tonnes due to the enemy’s continued attacks on our infrastructure. This includes grain elevators, railway junctions, rail traction, port infrastructure, and even vessels departing after loading,» Bohdan Kostetskyi commented.
