USDA: Household Share of Ukraine’s Pig Population Has Declined Significantly

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts an increase in pork production in Ukraine.

This is stated in the agency’s annual report.

Experts forecast that pork production in 2027 will reach 610 thousand tonnes, which is 1.7% higher than the estimate for the current year.

Imports, according to the agency, are expected to decline to 45 thousand tonnes (-10%), while exports are forecast to double to 2 thousand tonnes.

Domestic pork consumption next year is expected to reach 653 thousand tonnes (+0.6%).

Ukraine’s pig population is forecast to decline to 4.6 million head next year (-3% compared with the 2026 estimate). Piglet production is expected at 7.8 million head (+3%).

The share of households in Ukraine’s pig population structure declined by 4%, falling to 31% as of 1 January 2026. During the first seven months of 2026, it decreased by a further 22%, USDA reports.
