Trade turnover in agricultural goods between Ukraine and the European Union in January–June 2026 increased by $847 million (+11%) compared with the same period last year and amounted to $8.55 billion.
This was reported by the press service of the National Scientific Centre «Institute of Agrarian Economics» (NSC IAE).
Ukraine’s positive trade balance increased to $3.47 billion.
Among the countries of this regional bloc, Ukraine’s main trading partners in the agricultural products segment are Poland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and France.
«Ukraine’s combined trade turnover with these countries accounts for 70% of the total value,» noted Mykola Puhachov, Deputy Director of the NSC IAE and Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.
According to the researchers, as of the beginning of July 2026, Ukraine had fully used only the annual wheat quota provided for under the updated terms of food trade between Ukraine and the EU.
In addition, high quota utilisation rates were recorded for apple juice (91%), poultry meat (75%, quarterly quotas), eggs in shell and egg products (75% each, quarterly quotas), ethanol (64%), honey (61%), sugar (59%) and sweet corn (59%).
In the first half of this year, mutual trade in agri-food products between Ukraine and the EU increased. Given the current situation, trade ties between Ukraine and the EU will continue to strengthen in the near future, as the European vector will continue to play a key role for our country in food exports and imports, Mykola Puhachov concluded.
