Demand for organic gluten-free products, functional ingredients for the food industry, dairy products, and processed berries is growing across the European market.
This is according to a study conducted by the Organic Initiative Public Union with the support of the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO), OrganicInfo reports.
The greatest opportunities for Ukrainian companies in the EU market are linked to moving beyond raw material exports and focusing on products with higher added value.
Organic legumes remain one of the most promising segments. In 2024, Ukraine supplied approximately 78,000 tonnes of organic protein crops to the EU, ranking third among suppliers and accounting for about 18% of the market. According to experts, this segment offers significant potential for product diversification and the development of value-added processed goods.
The study also highlights prospects for organic dairy products. Despite fluctuating export dynamics in recent years, the European market is showing signs of renewed demand, with key categories including yogurts, fermented dairy products, butter, and UHT milk.
The gluten-free segment also presents substantial opportunities. Ukraine already cultivates the main crops used in gluten-free production, including oats, buckwheat, flax, millet, amaranth, and corn. However, the highest added value is generated not through raw commodities but through the production of flour, flakes, functional blends, and similar products.
For producers of organic blueberries and frozen raspberries, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries, and the Netherlands remain the key export destinations. Experts note that one of the industry's main objectives is to gradually move from working through traders to establishing direct contracts with retailers, enabling producers to increase added value and strengthen their market position.
