This year, Ukraine’s raspberry harvest was likely smaller than last year’s, but high berry prices compensated for the shortfall. The price of raw materials for processing reached UAH 193–195/kg excluding VAT.

This was reported by Taras Bashtannyk, President of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UFVA), in an interview with SEEDS.

According to him, it is still too early to speak of a record in terms of production volumes. At the same time, in monetary terms, the result may be a record or close to last year’s level precisely because of higher prices.

Taras Bashtannyk noted that raspberries remain a crop that requires exclusively manual harvesting. Mechanised harvesting is currently impossible, which limits any significant expansion of the area under the crop.

Around 90–95% of Ukrainian raspberries are exported. According to the UFVA President, the domestic market for this berry remains small, so its export orientation will continue.
