Kernel Confirms Compliance of Agricultural Production with Global Climate Standards

An independent auditor visited 11 fields of the Druzhba-Nova cluster in Chernihiv Region to verify the application of climate practices in the field, the holding’s press service reports.

It is noted that during the visit, the auditor conducted a series of interviews with the agronomy team and the management of Druzhba-Nova, assessed cultivation technologies, the data collection and recording system, laboratory operations and agronomic control. Following the inspection, the expert noted the high level of project management and the accuracy of field analytics on which the calculation of carbon accumulation is based.

At the same time, the project entered the assessment process of Sylvera, a leading international carbon market rating agency, in the pre-issuance category, which indicates the high quality of the data and transparency of preparation even before the first certificates are issued.

«It is important for us to demonstrate that emissions reductions in agriculture can be clearly measured and verified. Kernel implements these practices itself on its own fields, so we are responsible both for the result and for the quality of the data. In the future, this experience will open the way for other Ukrainian agricultural producers to attract international climate investment,» said Marta Trofimova, Head of Sustainability at Kernel.

The company clarified that it is implementing the project jointly with Sentinel Earth across 15,000 hectares in Chernihiv Region.

A decision on the final validation and registration of the project with Verra is expected in January. After that, Kernel will be entitled to issue internationally recognised verified carbon certificates.

VCS projects undergo independent validation and verification to confirm that the project complies with established requirements and that the claimed emissions reductions or removals are credible.

Sylvera is an independent international rating company that assesses the quality of carbon projects and certificates. Its ratings show the extent to which a project actually delivers the claimed emissions reductions or removals. The ratings are used by companies and investors to assess the quality of carbon certificates before purchasing them or financing projects.

Sentinel Earth is an international company that develops carbon projects and supports them from potential assessment and methodology selection through validation, verification and commercialisation of carbon units.
