Ukrainian organic raw materials for the baking industry have significant potential in the European market. However, products that are actively supplied in the B2B segment usually remain invisible to the end consumer in the EU.
This was discussed during the «Bread Industry 2026» conference.
«This happens at the stage of creating added value. Companies in the EU have the right to label products as «non-EU country» on the packaging. And we are there in 90% of cases. That means we are easy to replace, we are invisible to consumers, and we are not part of the trust associated with the product,» said Olena Deineko, Chairwoman of the Organic Initiative public union.
As a result, Ukrainian companies receive the lowest price and, consequently, the minimum possible profit they could otherwise earn. At the same time, the expert added that global organic markets continue to develop steadily: for more than 10 years, the market has been growing by several percent annually.
Olena Deineko also drew special attention to gluten-free products, as this category is showing the fastest growth. Demand for such products is increasing alongside trends toward «clean label» products, transparent ingredients, and conscious nutrition.
In Ukraine, this market is only beginning to develop: among hundreds of certified producers, only a few operate in the segment of organic gluten-free products. This creates both challenges and significant opportunities for development and export.
