Ukraine’s Agricultural Sector Losses from Russian Attacks Exceed $11 Billion

The direct losses suffered by Ukraine’s agricultural sector as a result of the full-scale war and Russian attacks have exceeded $11 billion.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

According to him, the total amount includes approximately $6.5 billion in losses from destroyed agricultural machinery, damaged infrastructure — including grain storage facilities — as well as stolen and destroyed agricultural products.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, together with other government agencies and the Kyiv School of Economics, maintains a register of war-related losses, recording damage to agricultural infrastructure facilities.

Vysotskyi noted that attacks on agricultural infrastructure in the Odesa region intensified significantly in late 2025 and early 2026. In particular, during the first months of 2026, the ports of Greater Odesa were hit by more than 180 strikes — nearly as many as during the entire previous year.

«During peak periods, this reduced export capacity by 20–30%, although the ports generally continue to operate and withstand the workload,» he said.

Facilities belonging to international companies operating in Ukraine have also been affected by the attacks. This year, infrastructure owned by agribusiness companies Bunge and ADM sustained damage.

According to Vysotskyi, damage assessments and restoration work are underway at both sites, but it is still too early to speak about a full resumption of operations.

At the same time, he emphasized that the actual losses of Ukraine’s agricultural sector are significantly higher than the amount of direct damages, as they also include lost income and the loss of professional expertise and production potential.
