The export potential for peas this season is forecast at 350 thousand tonnes, which is 75% higherthan in the previous season. Experts hope that access to the Chinese market will stimulate exports.

This was stated by Andrii Kupchenko, Head of the Analytical Department at APK-Inform, FAO Ukraine Technical Expert on Markets and Trade, during the Grain Processing Forum 2026, organised by the Union «Flour Millers of Ukraine» together with FAO Ukraine as part of Agro Ukraine Week.

«Another issue is quality, availability and price. In 2025, 180.5 thousand tonnes of peas were sold, but despite fairly large production volumes, prices continued to increase. This is a matter of demand and production costs. The average selling price of peas reached a record UAH 11.9 thousand per tonne last year,» explained Andrii Kupchenko.

He noted that pea production in the current season increased to 679.2 thousand tonnes, which is 46.7% higher than last year. These volumes are sufficient for food processing and will also cover export demand. Stocks are also sufficient, and there are no signs of a shortage.

In the 2026/27 marketing year, pea production is expected to decrease by 12%, to 597.6 thousand tonnes. Consumption is also projected to decline by almost 6%, to 165 thousand tonnes. At the same time, exports could increase to 380 thousand tonnes.
