Ukraine Takes Another Step Towards Exporting Milk Powder and Poultry Meat to Algeria

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Taras Vysotskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and Ahmed Ouail, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Ukraine and Moldova, according to the Ministry’s press service.

Following the inspection, the two sides will be able to proceed with the practical arrangements for supplying milk powder to the Algerian market. The inspection will mark the next stage of cooperation following the visit of representatives of Ukraine’s dairy industry and the competent authority to Algeria.

The meeting also addressed opportunities to open the Algerian market to Ukrainian meat products, particularly poultry meat and poultry products. Ukraine has already submitted a request to the Algerian authorities regarding import requirements, market access procedures, and the relevant veterinary certificates, and is currently awaiting an official response.

Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, making the stable supply of Ukrainian wheat an important factor for the country’s food security and that of the wider North African region.

Taras Vysotskyi informed the Algerian side that, following the disruption of maritime exports caused by Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, Ukraine has been developing alternative export routes while continuing efforts to restore the full operation of the maritime export corridor.

«Wheat is critically important to global food security. Despite the challenging circumstances, we will do everything possible to restore stable supplies and fulfil our long-term commitments. Ukraine will continue to be a reliable supplier of agricultural and food products,» Taras Vysotskyi said.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination between their competent authorities, jointly develop logistics solutions, and further expand market access for Ukrainian agricultural products in Algeria.
