Hryhorii Tkachenko, Director of the Naporivske farm (Chernihiv Region), has decided to completely discontinue beef cattle farming in order to repay loans and pay taxes.
He spoke about this on Ukrainian Radio Chernihiv, CHE.CN.UA reports.
According to Hryhorii Tkachenko, harvest volumes at his farm and neighbouring agricultural enterprises have remained approximately at last year’s levels, but purchase prices are insufficient to cover production costs.
In particular, corn is currently being purchased at UAH 3,600 per tonne, sunflower seeds at UAH 12,000 per tonne, and winter wheat at UAH 4,000 per tonne. Meanwhile, the price of diesel fuel offered to the farmer was UAH 118 per litre.
Due to the gap between costs and selling prices, the farm has decided to abandon beef cattle farming. According to Hryhorii Tkachenko, the enterprise has already signed an agreement to sell its herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle.
The farmer explained that this decision is intended to help the farm maintain financial stability, meet its loan obligations and pay taxes. He emphasised that the situation reflects the difficult conditions in which Ukrainian agricultural producers currently operate.
