Apple Exporters Suspend Shipments Due to Rising Logistics Costs

Difficulties in crossing the state border and high logistics costs have forced Ukrainian apple exporters to suspend shipments and revise their sales plans.

Representatives of USPA-Fruit told AgroTimes about this in a comment.

According to a company representative, the transition to new border crossing procedures has caused significant delays. This has complicated the movement of products to foreign markets, particularly due to the dependence of logistics on maritime transport.

At the same time, transportation costs have become excessively high and, in some cases, exceed the price of the products themselves. As a result, companies are being forced to reduce sales volumes and wait for the situation to change.

Low purchase prices remain an additional challenge for producers. According to a USPA-Fruit representative, farmers often sell apples below cost and therefore turn to intermediary companies that resell them.

For comparison, retail apple prices in stores reach UAH 29/kg, while purchase prices from producers stand at UAH 11–15/kg.

For now, exporters have adopted a wait-and-see approach and suspended shipments.
