Retail sales of organic products are growing significantly in the EU, with Norway, Luxembourg and Hungary recording the highest growth since 2024 — 21.3%, 20.2% and 13.9%, respectively. In Ukraine, growth in retail sales of organic products has reached 7.4%.
This was stated by Johanna Stumpner, Head of Regulatory Policy and International Trade at the Association of Organic Food Producers (Germany), during the Organic Day in Ukraine conference.
At the same time, the expert noted that approximately 11% of land in the EU is used for organic production. The area of agricultural land used for organic farming is growing steadily, although not significantly. The sector includes approximately 438,000 producers and farmers and 109,000 processors.
«As the market is growing faster than the industry, a situation may arise where there is not enough organic produce to meet demand. Unfortunately, we do not have the level of political support for the sector that we would like, so Ukraine has an opportunity to make its presence known, as it is among the 10 key countries exporting and importing organic products in the EU,» Johanna Stumpner noted.
