Ukraine Ranks Among the Top Three Sugar Suppliers to the EU
Ukraine ranks third among sugar suppliers to the European Union, holding an 11% share of total imports.
These figures were provided by the European Commission based on the results of the first eight months of the 2025/26 marketing year (which in Europe starts in October), according to the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine, Ukrtsukor.
The leading sugar exporters to the EU are South Africa and Mauritius, with shares of 16% and 12%, respectively.
In total, during this period, the European Union imported 628 thousand tonnes of sugar (excluding sugar imports under IPR, which amounted to about 500 thousand tonnes), the association added.

Ukraine Has a Chance to Return to Free Sugar Trade with the EUThe EU–Ukraine Association Agreement provides for a review of trade quotas every five years. However, due to the full-scale war and the introduction of the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM) regime, the timeline has shifted, and the next quota review is expected on January 1, 2028. At the same time, if Ukraine accelerates its integration into the European Union, there may be an opportunity to return to a free sugar trade regime.
