Dvir Indychky, an artisan producer from Poltava region, has purchased professional equipment to set up a meat processing facility.
Olena Shaposhnyk, co-owner of the farm, told AgroPortal.ua about this.
The business was able to scale up thanks to the CraftUP Ukraine educational and grant project, in which Olena took second place and received UAH 200,000 to develop her business.
The company used the grant funds to purchase a multi-purpose climate-controlled curing chamber, which will enable it to launch the production of turkey jamón, basturma and other dry-cured delicacies. It also purchased a refrigerated cabinet and an autoclave, as well as a meat grinder, meat mixer, dough mixer, bowl cutter and vertical sausage stuffer to mechanise meat processing operations.
The new equipment will make it possible to mechanise meat preparation and processing, ensure proper storage conditions for raw materials and finished products, and improve meat production technology.
«Our product is currently undervalued. We are trying to promote turkey because consumers tend to prefer chicken and do not understand why turkey is more expensive. There also needs to be an educational aspect, explaining the benefits of turkey meat. We want to instil in people a love not only for turkey but also for nutritious and healthy eating in general,» Olena Shaposhnyk added.
For reference: CraftUP Ukraine is an educational and grant project for Ukrainian artisan producers, implemented by the online publication AgroPortal.ua with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. As a result of the programme, ten finalists received grant funding to develop their businesses.
