Return of Ukrainian Oil to Asian Markets Is a Strategic Priority

One of the strategic objectives of Ukraine’s oils and fats industry is to restore oil exports to Asian countries. Competition in Asian markets has intensified, with other producers increasing production, and Ukraine is consequently losing markets.

This was stated by Stepan Kapshuk, Director General of Ukroliyaprom, during Fat & Oil Industry 2026.

«Over these three months, we have not supplied a single tonne to India. Therefore, the number one task for the oils and fats industry today is to regain the Asian markets,» he emphasised.

Stepan Kapshuk named russia and Argentina among Ukraine’s competitors in the global sunflower oil market. Over the past two to three years, Argentina has increased sunflower production by more than 1 million tonnes, allowing it to expand sunflower oil production and exports, including to Asian markets that have traditionally been served by Ukraine.

«Now is precisely the right moment for Ukrainian products, before Argentina enters the market, as we share the same export markets — India and China. They are the largest consumers of our products,» the expert noted.
