Dairy Product Imports to Ukraine Increased by 71% Over the Year

In July, Ukraine imported 8.79 thousand tonnes of dairy products, which was 1% more than in June 2026 and 71% more than in July 2025.

This was reported by the Association of Milk Producers, citing data from the State Statistics Service.

It is noted that in January–July 2026, Ukraine imported 47.96 thousand tonnes of dairy products worth $219.27 million. Import volumes in physical terms increased by 36% compared with the same period last year. Cheese accounted for 59% of total imports.

At the same time, in July of this year, 12.27 thousand tonnes of dairy products worth $37.40 million were exported. Export volumes in physical terms increased by 6%, while export revenue rose by 7% compared with June 2026. Compared with July 2025, export volumes in physical terms decreased by 2%, while export revenue declined by 11%.

«In January–July 2026, Ukraine exported 76.05 thousand tonnes (-9%) of dairy products worth $218.27 million (-18%),» the association stated.

The main export categories were:

  • ice cream — 28%;
  • condensed milk and cream — 24%;
  • butter — 14%;
  • cheese — 13%;
  • casein — 9%.

According to the association, in July, export volumes in physical terms increased for non-condensed milk and cream to 1.38 thousand tonnes (+8% compared with June), fermented dairy products to 719 tonnes (+10%), ice cream to 2.88 thousand tonnes (+7%), butter to 1.07 tonnes (+66%), cheese to 1.13 thousand tonnes (+4%), and casein to 477 tonnes (+15%). At the same time, whey exports decreased to 1.36 thousand tonnes (-10%).

Compared with July 2025, Ukraine increased export volumes in physical terms of fermented dairy products to 719 tonnes (+30%), whey (+11%) and ice cream (+9.8%), while reducing exports of non-condensed milk and cream (-17%), condensed milk and cream (-1%), butter (-20%), cheese (-3%) and casein (-35.9%).

Compared with the previous month, export revenue increased from shipments of fermented dairy products to $1.02 million (+6%), butter to $5.36 million (+55%), ice cream to $10.49 million (+6%) and casein to $3.29 million (+18%). Revenue declined for the following products: non-condensed milk and cream to $1.18 million (-7%), condensed milk and cream to $8.83 million (-5%), whey to $2.22 million (-4%) and cheese to $4.97 million (-2%).

Compared with July 2025, export revenue increased for shipments of fermented dairy products by 32%, whey by 81% and ice cream, while declining for shipments of casein (-28%), cheese (-6%), butter (-45%), non-condensed milk and cream (-12%) and condensed milk and cream (-1%).

«The foreign trade balance in July 2026 was positive and amounted to $918 thousand,» the association concluded.
