Sowing pace has accelerated, but is far from previous years

So, as of May 11, 2026, the situation with the main crops that are currently being actively sown is as follows:

• Corn was sown on 2.4 mln ha, which is 54% of the forecasted acreage. In the two previous years, this figure was 89%;
• sunflower - 2.6 mln ha (52% of the forecasted acreage). In the two previous years - 82%;
• Soybeans - 0.9 mln ha (43% of the forecasted acreage). In the previous two years - 77%.

«The current warming allowed us to start the active phase of sowing more thermophilic spring crops. However, the situation with the uneven distribution of moisture in the soil and the rapid drying of the top layer forces farmers to accelerate further in order to have time to capture the optimal sowing days and moisture,» UCAB said.
