The blockade of sea routes could trigger an agricultural crisis and food shortages within two to three months in African countries, some Asian countries and the Middle East, where Ukraine exports millions of tonnes of food.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during a forum, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
«Everyone is talking about diesel fuel, but everyone is forgetting about grain. Believe me, in two or three months everyone will be talking about a crisis in agriculture, because there will be food shortages in countries on the African continent, in some Asian countries and in the Middle East, as we export millions of tonnes of food to these markets. And now the sea routes are blocked, and the United States does not feel this,» Zelenskyy said.
The President added that the problem concerns not only energy but also the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, since «when food supply routes are blocked, this becomes a challenge, and it means hunger that many countries may face.»
The Head of State called on partners to take the global consequences of crises into account and make efforts to prevent them.
