Ukraine to Increase Tomato Crop for Processing

Ukraine’s tomato production for processing is expected to reach 550 thousand tonnes this year, which is 17% higherthan the volume harvested in 2025.

The forecast was released by the World Processing Tomato Council (WPTC), according to Tomato News.

Favorable weather conditions are expected to help Ukraine achieve a harvest of 550 thousand tonnes of processing tomatoes. In 2025, experts had projected production at the same level, but the final output was significantly lower at 470 thousand tonnes.

WPTC analysts note that weather conditions slightly delayed tomato planting this season, but they have not revised their forecast for Ukraine’s 2026 crop. Globally, processing tomato production is expected to total 39.8 million tonnes, down from 40.3 million tonnes last year.

The top 10 processing tomato producers are forecast as follows:

  • California (USA) — 8.89 million tonnes (-15.6% year-on-year);
  • China — 5.92 million tonnes (+20.8%);
  • Italy — 5.8 million tonnes (-0.7%);
  • Spain — 2.75 million tonnes (+14.1%);
  • Türkiye — 2.45 million tonnes (+11.4%);
  • Iran — 1.7 million tonnes (-5.6%);
  • Brazil — 1.47 million tonnes (+2.1%);
  • Portugal — 1.3 million tonnes (-0.4%);
  • Chile — 1.3 million tonnes (-3%);
  • Algeria — 1.3 million tonnes (unchanged).
