Agricultural producers in Zakarpattia region have completed the sowing of early cereal crops and are continuing an active spring campaign to plant vegetables, potatoes and late crops.
This was reported by the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration on Facebook.
In particular, the sowing of spring wheat, barley and oats in the region has already been completed. A total of 2.4 thousand hectares have been planted with these crops.
At the same time, potato planting and the sowing of vegetable crops are ongoing. Of the planned 40 thousand hectares, more than half of the area has already been sown and planted.
In particular:
The region has also started sowing late crops. Corn has already been sown on 15 thousand hectares, which is almost 35% of the forecast area. Sunflower has been planted on 2 thousand hectares, or 56% of the plan.
Olha Perepelytsia, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, noted that this year’s sowing campaign is taking place under difficult weather conditions.
According to her, April frosts damaged early-flowering fruit trees, while strong winds and a lack of precipitation are reducing soil moisture reserves.
