Ukrzaliznytsia Estimates Grain Export Potential via Moldova at 4.5 Million Tonnes per Year

To increase transportation volumes, it is necessary to expand the handling capacity of border stations, optimise control procedures, eliminate technological constraints at border crossings and improve the organisation of train traffic.

Ukrzaliznytsia noted that implementing these measures would make it possible to use the corridor’s potential more efficiently and ensure stable transportation in the event of increased demand for the route.

At the same time, the company currently has no possibility of introducing additional discounts on domestic tariffs due to the risk of deterioration in its financial position.

Together with the railway administrations of other countries, port operators and businesses, Ukrzaliznytsia is developing solutions to support agricultural exports.

Since the end of July, weekly meetings have been held with the participation of carriers from Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Slovakia, terminal operators and cargo owners. The meetings discuss increasing the throughput and handling capacity of border crossings.
