Ukraine’s fish producers currently have sufficient capacity to meet the needs of public institutions with high-quality domestically produced fish products.

This was discussed during a meeting involving representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the State Agency for Fisheries, and relevant government institutions, the ministry’s press service reported.

«There are currently 359 aquaculture enterprises and 34 certified fish processing facilitiesoperating in Ukraine, enabling the country to ensure stable fish supplies without the risk of shortages,» the ministry said.

At the same time, an analysis of public procurement showed that during the first half of 2026, nearly 70% of the budget funds spent by hospitals on fish products went toward imports, even though a significant share of this demand could be met by Ukrainian producers.

«According to experts’ estimates, by adjusting public procurement practices, the share of Ukrainian fish products in the diets of healthcare institutions could increase to 92% as early as the second half of the year. This would allow most public funds to remain within the Ukrainian economy, supporting domestic producers and creating new jobs,» the ministry noted.
