Record sunflower harvest is predicted in the world

World sunflower production in 2026/27 MY may reach a record 62-63 mln tonnes, which will significantly exceed 56.9 mln tonnes in the current season and the previous record of 59.4 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY

This forecast was made by the analysts of Oil World, According to APK-Inform.

As specified, currently, the farmers in many countries partially abandon the cultivation of corn and other crops requiring significant volumes of fertilizers in favor of sunflower and soybeans. In this regard, the global sunflower acreage in 2026/27 MY may increase to the record level of 34.1 mln ha, compared to 32.8 mln ha in the previous season.

In particular, the EU is expected to increase the sunflower acreage by 0.2 mln ha to 4.9 mln ha this spring, with the highest growth forecasted in France, Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain. This may increase the EU sunflower production to 9.6-9.7 mln tonnes, which is about 1 mln tonnes more than a year ago.

The biggest increase in sunflower production next season is expected in Russia and Ukraine - up to 20-21 mln tonnes and 12.5-13 mln tonnes respectively.
