Larger Honey Harvest in Ukraine Triggers Price Decline

Serhii Sharonin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pasika 21, writes about this in his column for AgroTimes.

According to him, the acacia honey harvest was average, the buckwheat harvest was significantly below average, while linden and sunflower, especially in the northern regions, produced good results.

At the same time, following reports of a fairly good acacia honey harvest in Romania, its wholesale purchase price began to decline. Later, the price of sunflower honey also started falling as soon as the market sensed the prospect of a high harvest.

Additional pressure on prices is being created by expectations that this year’s duty-free quota for honey imports into the EU will soon be exhausted, as well as discussions about changes to taxation rules.

Some beekeepers are actively selling honey because they need funds to prepare bees for winter, repay debts and cover other expenses. At the same time, farms that have the capacity to store their products prefer to hold back on wholesale sales after making the necessary calculations, in anticipation of a more favourable price.

Serhii Sharonin notes that virtually no carry-over stocks of honey from 2025 remain, so those who can afford to do so are trying to replenish their stocks.
