The share of organic blueberries in Ukraine is small - 4-6% (450-670 tons), but the potential is significant, because about 20% of certified plantations are still young and do not bear fruit. Currently, Ukraine ranks eighth in blueberry production in Europe.
This was told by Ksenia Gulieva, an expert of the Export Services Department of the Organic Initiative NGO, during the webinar "Roadmap for the Export of Organic Berries."
According to her, blueberry production is concentrated in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Cherkasy regions, with new clusters emerging in Volyn, Rivne and Poltava. Chernihiv and Sumy regions are promising, where the soil and climate are ideal for this berry."
"The growth rates of plantations and exports from Ukraine allow us to predict a doubling of supplies by 2028. Ukraine is still heavily dependent on exports to Poland, but routes are gradually diversifying and new directions are developing: Romania, Slovakia and Hungary," says Ksenia Gulieva. Separately, the marginal direction to the UAE is distinguished.
